I believe in the future of Hartford. We are a beautiful city, and our best days are ahead of us. We will win, and move this city forward by working together.

What I believe in:

Investing in our Neighborhoods

Our greatest potential lies in investing in those who already live in Hartford. I am going to create a fund to provide capital to Hartford residents starting small businesses or buying homes in Hartford neighborhoods.

Empowering our Residents

We must demand that our residents are treated with the same respect and dignity that residents of neighboring towns expect. It means cleaning up the trash on streets, dealing with dangerous intersections, and going after the out-of-state slumlords who are willing to profit off keeping Hartford residents in uninhabitable housing.

A Future for our Children

Our children are hurting, and need real support. I will work to keep our neighborhood schools open after the school day is over, giving parents the peace of mind of knowing their children are safe, and giving kids a place to be kids again. Through our schools we will rebuild sports and rec programs in each neighborhood, along with music and the arts and academic and mental health support.

About me:

I am the CEO of the Hartford Land Bank, where we take the City’s vacant and blighted properties and train Hartford residents to redevelop them. By investing in our own residents we aren’t just changing structures, we are building wealth among Hartford residents, creating opportunities for homeownership, and rebuilding our communities from within. I am running for Mayor because each and every one of us has the power to determine what the future of this city looks like. And through this election we will empower our communities, we will show the strength of our voice.

Before joining the Land Bank I served in the Lamont Administration as Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, and before then was a lawyer downtown at the firm of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C. I live in the Frog Hollow neighborhood in a formerly vacant and blighted house with my wife and our five small kids. My wife Liza is the Senior Minister of the First Church of Christ (Center Church) in Hartford. I am on the Board of the Hartford Public Library and the House of Bread, and am on the Hartford Redevelopment Authority.

What matters most to you?

I believe in a City Hall that works for every resident regardless of your neighborhood or income level. And regardless of what your issue is, or how small it may seem.

We need to get mattresses off the sidewalk, fix broken lights, paint those speed bumps you keep running into. If we want residents to believe that government can do big things, we need to earn that trust by doing the small things right.

So what’s on your mind?
